Top 5 Tips to Get the Most Out of a Networking Event
Making the intention to attend a networking event and showing up are huge steps! Yet, once you are it’s important to make sure you know how to get the most out of this experience. Here is our 5 top tips for you to get you ready, set and going:
1. Go in with clear intentions
Always begin with anything with ‘Bismillah’ and this is no different. This means you are not stepping in the room alone, but your intention is for Allah and you will know He is there with you to guide you through this experience. Before you go, ask yourself: ‘What do I hope to gain or give?’
Maybe it’s meeting potential collaborators, learning from mentors, or simply expanding your circle. Set a sincere intention, one that is not just for business growth, but for a genuine connection with like-minded women for mutual benefit.
2. Practice your introduction
Have a confident, concise way to introduce who you are and what you do. Avoid sounding rehearsed, but that doesn’t mean not practising! Be authentic, smile, and speak from the heart. People remember sincerity more than slogans or titles. What comes from the heart touches the heart.
3. Go in with to listen, not just speak
True connection with others in the room comes from genuine interest. Ask thoughtful questions, show curiosity, and listen attentively. When people feel heard, they’re far more likely to remember you.
4. Follow up with purpose
During the event, don’t be afraid to exchange business cards, phone numbers or connect on Linked In, and social media. These are all ways to develop on-going connections.
After the event, reach out within 48 hours with the ladies you connected to. A simple message like, “It was lovely connecting with you. I’d love to continue our conversation about…” helps turn a momentary encounter into a lasting relationship.
5. Offer real value authentically
Great networkers give before they receive. Share a resource, introduce someone, or offer support. The more value you bring to others, the more naturally your network will grow, and the rewards are seen in both this dunya and akhirah.
A Final Note:
Networking is not about self-promotion; it’s about service, sincerity, and shared growth. As Muslim women, we are called not to compete with a scarcity mindset but to lift others as we rise with an abundance mindset. Together we can build not just businesses, but communities of faith-driven success. Finally, remember: you’re not just representing your brand, you’re representing your values, your story, and the strength of sisterhood in Islam.
