Why We Built Our Own Networking Space for Muslim Women
Looking for business networking for Muslim women that genuinely understands your values? MWBN was created to fill a gap we experienced ourselves, and one that many Muslim women entrepreneurs across the UK continue to face.
As more Muslim women build successful businesses, launch new ventures and step into leadership, many are discovering that finding the right business community can be just as important as finding the right clients.
Networking has the power to open doors, create collaborations and provide invaluable support. Yet for many Muslim women, traditional networking events can still feel like spaces where they are adapting to fit in rather than being able to show up as themselves.
That is the gap we saw, and it's the reason we built the Muslim Women's Business Network (MWBN).
The Gap we experienced in "traditional" Networking
Many networking organisations provide valuable opportunities, and we recognise the important role they play in supporting businesses across the UK. However, most were never specifically designed with Muslim women in mind, and that often shows in subtle but meaningful ways.
It may be events scheduled without consideration for prayer times, networking evenings centred around alcohol, conversations built around cultural experiences that aren't universally shared, or simply the feeling of being the only person in the room balancing faith, family and business in the way that you do.
None of this is usually intentional. It's simply what happens when a networking space is created around one common experience rather than recognising the diverse experiences of the women who attend.
Both of us had experienced this ourselves long before we ever imagined creating MWBN, and we knew we weren't alone.
The Hidden Cost of Constantly Explaining Yourself
When you spend part of every networking event explaining your values, providing cultural context, or wondering whether people truly understand your choices, you're using energy that could be spent building relationships, learning from others and growing your business.
It isn't always obvious from the outside, but over time that constant need to translate parts of your identity becomes mentally exhausting.
We wanted to create a business networking community where Muslim women could focus on building meaningful connections instead of explaining why they live, work or lead differently.
Why We Chose to Build MWBN
Rather than waiting for existing networking spaces to evolve, we chose to create the kind of community we had been searching for ourselves.
MWBN was built as a professional networking community where faith and ambition naturally exist alongside one another, where women can build successful businesses without feeling they need to compartmentalise who they are, and where genuine relationships matter just as much as business growth.
We believe that when women feel understood, they collaborate more openly, support one another more generously and build stronger, longer-lasting businesses together.
What Makes MWBN Different?
Everything about MWBN has been designed intentionally.
Our meetings focus on meaningful conversations, structured accountability and genuine relationship-building rather than simply exchanging business cards.
Our one-seat-per-profession model encourages collaboration over competition, allowing members to become trusted referral partners rather than direct competitors.
Our community is built around supporting one another through referrals, shared knowledge, accountability, business education and authentic friendships that continue long after each meeting has finished.
Most importantly, members never have to choose between their faith and their professional ambitions. At MWBN, both are recognised as valuable parts of who they are.
More Than a Networking Group
MWBN isn't simply another networking event in Manchester.
It's a growing community of Muslim women in business who believe that success becomes more meaningful when it is shared, that collaboration creates greater opportunities than competition, and that strong businesses are built through trusted relationships.
Our founding Manchester chapter is just the beginning of a much bigger vision: to create thriving Muslim women's business communities across the UK, where women can connect, learn, collaborate and grow together.
If you've been searching for a Muslim women's networking group where you feel genuinely understood, supported and encouraged to succeed, we'd love to welcome you.
Applications for our Manchester membership are now open, and we look forward to hearing your story. More Than a Networking Group
